                                             Internet Basics – II

The internet consists of two types of computers. The computers which provides information (data) to be read are called ‘Servers’. On the other hand, the computers that read the information offered by the servers are called ‘Clients’.


Servers run special software which are called Web Server Software which allows to respond to client request for information and accept data from clients.



Some example of server software which run to allow them to respond to client request for information are, IIS (Internet Information Server), Apache Web Server, Microsoft Personal Web Server.


On the other hand, Clients run special software which allows them to Locate the appropriate Server, Query the Server for the information to be read.


Some example of client software called browser software, which clients run to communicate to Servers for information are Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox.
